Default Help on Savage

I am leaning on purchashing a base mode Savage in the $400.00 range in a .270 caliber for about average sized whitetails, but really wanted a more versatile caliber to hunt varmints with later in the season. What particular model would you guys recommend? SS or Blued? Also, what scope would be recommended for for me in the $ 280.00 price range. Thanks and Happy Hunting!!! Uncle C

Try posting in the Guns forum instead of the Review forum and you will get more answers. I' ll bite though, first off you won' t get a much more versatile catridge for varmints and deer than the 270 Win. You could go with a 243 Win but you lose out on the deer killing ability. You could try a 25-06 Rem but it is overshadowed by the 270 for deer as well. As far as what model, pick one. Savage makes a good rifle at a low price so you really can' t go wrong with any of them.

In our area it is hard to beat the 270 Win, 308 Win, 7mm-08 Rem or the 30-06. The 243 Win does pretty good around here too since the deer are pretty small. What kind of varmints are you thinking of hunting? Second question that I forgot about before, do you reload? If not the there would be an advantage to the 243 since you can get 100 grain loads for deer or lighter loads for varmints off the shelf.

A simmons attec scope is a quality scope at an affordable price , same goes for a 270 savage , great bang for your buck
