Default Stainless vs Weathershield - Encore Barrels

I see the new T/C barrels with Weathershield are being promoted. They are significantly cheaper in price than rtheir stainless counterparts.

Does anyone know how these barrels will stand up vs Stainless ?

Any thoughts?

Pay the moeny for the stainless.

The weather sheild is only on the outside. I have one of the Z5 Omegas with weathershield... while its shoots great and looks decent... i was hunting in the rain two seasons ago and got some water in the bore. I did my best with patches in the field to dry it out..... discharged it after a 3 hour morning hunt... cleaned it as soon as I hit the door that morning and ..... too late.... pitting 6inches down and in spots all the way to the muzzle. i was shocked it could rust that fast. I take exceptional care of my guns and baby my omega.... it still shoots great but it bothers the heck out of me everytime i look down that bore.

I have seriously considered purchasing another with a true stainless barrel... just because it bugs me so much... even though (amazingly) the gun still shoots exceptionally well with pits near the muzzle.

Default Weathersheild Vs. Stainless

Thanks for the good report on weathersheild. I am in the process of buying three more barrels for my Pro Hunter. I am glad I started with stainless and will continue with stainless even if it costs a few more bucks.

I think when it comes to muzzleloaders, T/C was stupid pushing this weathersheild and not putting out a stainless.

And I guess they shouldn't be surprised that accura V2 ate their lunch this year.

I'd prefer Stainless WITH the weathershield over it.

I am not a big fan of blued barrels, much prefer SS.

The advantage to the weathershield is when you do it to stainless steel. The nitriding on SS is almost impervious to rusting. Doing it on normal steel will not be nearly as good.
