Default Wanting To Add A New Shotgun

I enjoy hunting deer with the shotgun and have a few in both 12ga & 20ga. I have Ithacas both in 12 & 20ga. smoothbore/rifle sights, Remington 11-87 12ga. rifled/cantilever, and of course my main shotgun: H&R Ultra Deluxe in 20ga. I wanted to get a rifled/cantilever barrel for both of the Ithacas but having a very hard time finding any, even from Ithaca themselves.

I want another 20ga., I was thinking of two: Remington 1100 new or used (always wanted one) I would purchase either a Remington barrel or a Hastings (both rifled/cantilever) or the new Savage 220. We all know the 1100 is well proven, but I hear some negative problems with the Savage. I'm in no rush to purchase as my H&R is a complete tack driver, so if I go with the Savage should I wait and give them time to get the "BUGS" out?

The Savage 220 is going to be a bit more accurate than the 1100 so thats what I would go with.

Hastings has dicontinued production of their cantilevered Ithaca barrels, but you can still probably find one for the 12ga if you shop around a bit...I'm not sure I have ever seen one in 20ga. So far Ithaca has not made a cantilever barrel, but you can get a standard rifled barrel from them.
Why dont you just drill and tap either of your Ithaca's and install a scope on the receiver?

I already have the rifled barrel (rifle sights) for the 20ga., for the 12ga. Ithaca states it must be above serial # 855,000, mine is 103,***. I would rather not drill/tap the receiver

Sounds like the Remington 1100 then huh !

I always liked these when I lived in NJ;

BHC, The last few years I have become "smitten" with the shotgun also, I have managed to collect a few over the years and one I think you should keep an eye-out-for is the Mossberg 695, it is about as "Ugly" as gun can get, and needs after market sights, (or scope) but it is a shooter!! I don't think they are being made anymore, but if you see one for sale, do yourself a favor and snap it up. you will not regret it, Den

You are not going to go wrong with the Savage. I have the Model 210F and it shoots 1" MOA at 100 yards. I am absolutely amazed. My buddy has one too and shoots equally as well. I wish the Model 220 would have been available when I bought mine. The detachable magazine would be worth it. It is a bit of a pain loading mine, but still wouldn't trade it for the world. And, the model 220 comes in 20 gauge which the Model 210 did not.
