What are your thoughts on H&R?
Accuracy?

I have the H&R with the heavy barrel in 223 w/ a 6x24x50 scope. Super accurate out to 200 yards (cause thats as far as I can shoot at the range I belong to).

I put a serious thumping on ground hogs and taken yotes with it.

Im actually looking at the Survivor rifle HB in 308, I have heard nothing but good out of them. They run about $250 vs a Savage or Remington varmint or Tac rifle starting around $700. The money I save will go into a nice scope for it.

Plus with that budget keeps the wife happy.

Mine seemed to shoot reloaded ammo best. Factory stuff would "pattern" more than group.

depends, I have one in a .22 hornet that drives tacks, I bought a 7-08 barrel for it and shot like crap, sold the barrell. but I will never get rid of the hornet. Handloads have produed 1/2" groups at times.

Did you call bout the problems you were having with the barrel? Ive been thinking about the 22 Hornet, but the cost of the bullets are crazy for factory loads... I really need to get into reloading.

i think that the h&r guns have alot potential to be super shooters. if i had more money to waiste i would try rebuilding one as ive been wanting. id take the 26 inch 25-06 barrel and re chamber it to 257 weatherby mag (or the 280 reamed out to 7mm rum), then i bed the forearm, intall a adjustable cheek piece and finally break in the barrel. no i dont expect a setup like that to match a good bolt action but it would prolly outshoot most out of the box guns. if i can get 1 1/4 moa and under with my 30-30 h&r without any tuning, id bet 3/4 would be plausible in a better chamber and a bedded forearm.

dan I did not call H&R, this barrell was bought used, and they are suppose to be fitted to the frame, even though 80% of them fit. I ended up just selling it.
The hornet is awsome if you handload. The H&R hornet has a 1-9 twist as uppose to evryone elses 1-12 or 1-14. Which means it will shoot heavier bullets. I load 50 gr nosler bt's with 13,2 gr of lil gun, 2700 + fps with that load and ragged holes at 100 yds. You need one bad, so get it. LOL
