Default Gander Mountain false advertising

Went to Gander Mountain last night to purchase the black synthetic stocked 12 gauge H&R Ultra Slug Hunter they had advertised for $199. Called ahead and they said they had one left. They put my name on it and I headed down there.

Upon arriving and being shown the gun it was NOT a USH. It was a black synthetically stocked, rifled barrel (SB1) H&R with scope rail alright - but no bull barrel. Just a regular thin wall barrel. This thing weighed probobly 1/2 what a real USH weighs and IMO with the thinner shoulder pad would probobly be painful to fire 2-3/4" slugs not to mention 3-inchers.

I complained. I said this isn't an H&R USH. I showed him a real (SB2) 12 gauge USH from the rack where it is clearly stamped ULTRA SLUG on the big bull barrel, unlike what they had for $199 which has no stamping on the barrel. He ran the SKU # and sure enough it does not come up as a USH.

I told him that was a problem because I was pulled into the store by the promise of a black synthetically stocked USH for $199. I want a USH and for $199 - that is what I drove there for. (The USH on the rack would suffice. It was wood stocked, but was an actual USH. $279) So he gets the MOD back there and she sez she understands the situation but she isn't going to drop the real USH $80 to the advertised sale price - I'd have to speak to the store manager tomorrow (today) after he gets in at 1pm.

I hope they see the err of their ways. I am VERY suprised it hasn't come to someones attention. I mean the sale paper is widely distributed and someone else has had to have noticed this or a bunch of people were sold what they were led to belief was an USH but isn't.

I hope this store manager has a good, decent hear on his shoulders and not just a hat holder.

I'm getting tired of dealing with gun shop BS. After the last fiasco with my nephew and his dealings with Rink's Gun Shop in Lockport, IL I will say that I wouldn't go thru their front door again even if it was to escape a stampede.

Now this poop.

From what I see they are selling this gun w/o the .44 barrel as an USH.

typical big store BS !!!!! They should honor their ad price and give you the real H&R for the sale price

Just a few weeks ago I went to Lowes for a weed whacker, they had two within my price range one was a straight shaft for $70, the other was a bent shaft for $95, 20 feet away from the display was the boxed machines I thought I picked the $70 one, upon paying for it they said $95, went back to the display with the manager showed where I got it from and there it was just one price, but both models where mixed up among each other, he had no choice but to honor the lower price

uncle matt-
I was looking at that in the add too. I was at Gnd. Mnt. yesterday and today to use a 25% discount mailer I got for having a Gnd. Master Card. The problems is, the discount does not apply to guns, ammo, electronics, or optics. Those all would only be 5%. They even said black powder bullets are considered ammunition. I have $70 in gift cards but the do not carry 300 Barnes Expander MZs in store or online. I did happen to see packs of 250 Expanders and the 290 grain tipped ones.

Don't mean to be frank, but it's something you should consider... Instead of whining here, as you know it's venting and won't help your cause, go contact the regional GM and speak to someone with authority. Be cordial, but at the same time keep letting 'em know how ticked you are. Explain you're a long time customer, etc, etc. This way at least you go over the bosses' head and something may be done about it.

I've had a few bad business dealings with larger companies and I don't complain to the manager. I complain to the manager's boss, which is usually at a different location/state. That way you hold 2 people accountable as it's the person's responsibility now, the one you called, to contact the store manager to see what can be done. It takes a phone call or 2, but has always been worth it for me.

You just may get the gun at what it was advertised for.

Good luck,

The manager (Tom) said he would "meet in the middle". That would be $239.00. I can get one at other (honest) places for that price.

So the SKU on the sales flier came up as a non-USH gun? I would say someone goofed up on the sales flier, marketing or something. The other thing to consider, whats the common price for a synthetic stock USH? All I can find is woodstocked models on gunsamerica, and it went for $399. There isnt a huge markup on guns in the first place, so if you see some store selling a gun way cheaper then is normal, then its usually too good to be true. Without going over the manager's head, the price he offered may be all he his authorized to do. A call over his head may be warranted if you want more results, just dont make the manager out as being the bad guy, its the ad thats the problem. They may eat it and sell it to you at a loss if needed to stem a complaint of false advertising, if the SKU on the ad in fact isnt for that gun.
