best bullet for coyote???
 

i was wondering if you can use a FMJ bullet for coyote hunting. i want a good bullet that will not tear the coyte apart. im wanting to keep the hides and not have to worry about big holes in them. ill be useing a 204. any suggestions or will a FMJ work?

I use the V-max bullets but it does leave a mark !

anything that you got in your gun at the time usually work good for me.

I really like the hornady Amax it very accurate and it doesn't seem to blow em up not as of yet anyway.

If you reload, give 35 grain berger bullets a look. If you don't reload I would use V-Max. The 39 grain Sierra Blitz king bullets are super accurate but they seem to produce a lot of surface splash.

I agree with the 35g Bergers for reloading.

And the 32g Hornady Vmax in ammo sales(Chronys out at about 3850fps). Both these offerings work great in a 1:12 twist barrel.
However, the 40g offerings grouped horrible.

We reload the 35g Bergers (Moly Coated) with 29.5g of IMR4320 powder, Rem brass, Rem 7 1/2 BR primers. This is just barely a Compressed Load, that gives 1.5-2 inch groups at 350yards. This is on a 22inch barreled AR-15 platform. This chrony's out around 4000fps

For Non-Moly Coated 35g Berger bullets, start at 27g of 4320 powder, and work up from there:)

I don't even know of a place that you can get ammo. for the .204 with FMJ bullets, which is good, because you shouldn't use them for coyote hunting purpose anyways. If you reload, teh 35 or 40 gr. bergers are the cats meow on coyotes. I've shot a couple truck load of coyotes with them and they work great. If you don't reload, just have to find one of the v-max or blitz king bullets are are accurate out of your gun, and then avoid the shoulder on the coyote because those bullets have a history of lack of penetration when they hit bone.
The .204 is a great coyote killing caliber. FMJ bullets are not great coyote killing bullets.

Been using the Barnes 50 grain X-bullet, Danzac coated by myself...very very little pelt damage..similar to a FMJ but it always passes right on out the other side and will bust any bone or shoulder shield it hits..big game bullets on coyotes, interesting change..problem, it get's a little expensive but every pelt can be sold which more than pays in the long run..oh yeah, out of a .22/250 around 3700 fps..it'll reach out an touch em' and penetrate em' from any angle...

I guess I didn't realize that there was even a 50 gr. bullet available for the .204. Pretty sure that 45 gr. is the heaviest avialable, unless you're correct!

I don't hunt yotes a whole lot but when I do I use a 25-06 so yea, I get a rather big hole, usually in the head. I only kill for bounty th ough so it dont matter but Id recommend any type of match bullets for a smaller hole. Theyres alot of different brands and any of them would prolly work pretty good.
