Default Bobcat - Don't let this happen to you !

I took a 300 + yard shot at a NICE Bobcat using my .204 with a ballistic plex retical.

So I placed the "third" crosshair on him and squeezed one off.

He went Right Down.......Yaaa!!!

I wanted to mount him, so I did not put a follow-up shot in him but kept him in my scope while I watched himfor over a minute........... he then got up and ran off (He was playing dead).

Two lessons;

1) With such a flat shooting round I should have remembered that the .204 has a PBR of 287 yards, so there was no need to use the "third" crosshair, as I now realize that I shot over him.

2) Seems that he went Right Down because he did't know what happened or where the shot came from (take the follow-up shot !!!).

I screwed up on a NICE cat.........boy am i pissed !!!!

FYI - Don't let this happen to you !

A 204 will put a heck of a hole. I recommend if you shoot a nice fat cat again with the 204, you load up some barnes solids. I have had better luck with 30gr of BLC2 and 32gr nosler BT.

But the barnes is made to not cause so much damage.

Here is the damage it does at 100 yards on a groundhog.

Well it's better to clean miss than to cripple, so you got the second best outcome!
