I have a 30 06 Remington 700 and cant seem to find to many options when it comes to thumb hole stocks. Theres one in cabelas but it only comes in wood grain. Im also hoping to get some feed back on weither this is a good choice or abad one. The thumb hole stock seems so much more comfortable. I do alot of deer drives and need a quick comfortable set up.
h.s. precision makes one heck of a thumbhole for the 700. its aluminum bedded and comes in different colors. you can find them once in a while on ebay but i ordered mine direct from them. it will set you back like 300$ but if your investing in a gun that you want comfortable and will use a lifetime its well worth the investment and if you wanted to it could easily be sold to near what you paid for it.
I don't care go the thumb-hole stock because I have had to switch from right handed to left handed to get the shot. I have yet to find a thumb-hole that comfortably accommodates this switch over.
i have a 300wsm with a thumbhole stock, and while it is comfortable and quick to shoulder, it is extremely heavy...i used it on and elk hunt last year and halfway up a mountain i was contemplating just shooting myself and dying quickly instead of dying of exhaustion and dehydration....if you do alot of drives, then go with the lightest stock you can find and if you need a quicker mount then shorten the stock by and inch or so

You should try one for a couple of hunts before you sink a lot of money in one. They are great on the bench but I didn't care for it in the field. Heavy and a little awkward. Hard kickers really jamb your hand.
You should not have any problem getting a thumbhole stock for a Remington 700. I have went to a TH style stock on all my hunting rifles. There is no doubt in my mind that I shoot substantially better with a TH style stock. I do realize that sometimes you have to shoot off handed. But you can grip most thumhole stocks without putting your thumb in the stock. I have done it many times. As far as recoil is concerned. IMO TH style stock helps to reduce felt recoil. And also allows you to control the recoil better. Below are a few TH pictures. Tom.
