A few years backI purchased a Remington 870 Express Magnum combo from Gander Mountain. Package included a 28" smooth bore barrel and a 23" rifled barrel with a cantilever scope mount. I mounted a Nikon Pro-Staff 2-7x 32mm shotgun scope on the slug barrel. I have been extremely happy with the whole package including the scope. Shoots 2 ¾" " 3 ½ " shells. Slug barrel is very accurate. I shot this 200 pound doe through the heart at 110 yards with a Hornady SST. See attached photo.

One of my best huting buddies is a one gun man - Remington 870, hastings rifled barrel,Leupold Vari-X III compact 1.75-6x40 mm. Uses a Winchester brand sabot. Not sure which. He's killed hump-teen deer with this set up. Many well beyond 100 yards. I do not recall any misses or "failure" to recovers.

Remington 870, Any of the Mossbergs, and H&R Ultra Slug Hunter are great low budget slug guns. Just be sure to get a good scope if you plan on using one. Slug guns really abuse scopes.

Mossberg 500 12gauge pump With nikon prostaff 2-7x32 gets about a 3in group at 100 yrds with Hornady SST rounds.

For some reason i always wish i would have bought the 20gauge.

Remington 1100 slug gun. fully rifled 21" cantilever barrell. Simmions 6x pro diamond shotgun scope. I shoot foster slugs out of mine which some say your not supposed to but my gun loves them. It cuts holes at 50 yrds and will hold a 3" group at 150yrds. I'm shooting Remington slugger's 2-3/4 with a magnum dram equivalent not the max dr. equiv. There is a differnce.

I like my trusty ole 870 12ga. I put a Boyd's thumbhole stock and Bushnell multi-reticle red/green dot sight. It hasn't ever let me down. My son's is just like it, but in 20ga. Although, if I were shopping today, I would be looking at the H&R/NEF Ultra Slug Hunter.
