Default Which one to buy ?

A Savage 99 or a Winchester 88 or 100 ( all .308)Also looked at a Ruger Hawkeye in .358 win. Most of my hunting will be in Mo. with an occasional trip to Canada for black bear.

Thats tough, but I would have to look real hard at the Savage 99.

Wow!!! Hope you get mended up soon and get back feeling better!! Just my .02$ worth here...If you get the chance to buy a Model 88 at a competitive price with the 99, if it were me, there would be no choice. 99's are great guns. I own one. But the 88's are great guns too, and are seemingly in much higher demand on the market. I guess I'm saying I'd buy the 88 not only for it's usefulness, but also because of it's higher potential return on the market....JMO..

I have a Savage 99 in 300 Savage, a Winchester Model 100 in 308, and 4 of my hunting buddies shoot Winchester Model 88s in 308. They are all great guns, and you really can't go wrong with any of 'em. The 88 will definately be on the most $$$ valuable, the 100 will follow that, and the 99 will be the cheapest. The 88s and the 100s bring some outrageous money in these parts, and its pretty rare to see a 99 for sale anymore around here.

Savage Model 99 would be my choice, but I am biased because that was one of the first guns I used when I started hunting.

My first deer rifle was a Model 88 in 308 Win. I loved using it. It was stolen 30 years ago. So, my recommendation is probably tainted. If you can find one in good shape, buy the Model 88.
