Its been a while but I believe Winchester made a version of the model 70 and called it the Westener. I believe the model number was actually 770. This didn't have all the bells and whistles of the 70. Its metal finish wasn't as good as the 70's and the stock was different. I don't recall all the differences. But the Westener model didn't cost as much as the model 70. My cousin had one in 30-06 and it was a good shooter. He stopped hunting and sold it to my other cousin who still has it and it still shoots great.

My 24th edition of Blue Book of Gun Values lists a Model 70 Featherweight
"lightened version of Standard, .243 Win., .264 Win Mag. (Westerner), .270 Win.,.308 Win., 30-06, or .358 Win. cal., 22 in barrel, aliminum trigger guard and floorplate, ser. range is 206,626- 581,471. Mfg. 1952-1963."
The prices for .243 & 30-06 range from $825 down to $450. This was the only reference I found in this book (with just a real quick look) to any Model 70 with the term "Westerner" attached. I may have missed something. The other calibers listed vary in price from $1950 (358 Win.) @ 100% down to $400 for a .308 @ 60%.
Please keep in mind that this book I used as a reference is more than a few years old. I believe the 28th edition is current. Gun prices have fluctuated since. Anyhow I hope this helps some........

Sell it NOWAY I just got it. I found it in the 27 version of gun prices was I SHOCKED in 85% or better the price is $1054.00. It is the model 70 westener made 60-63. I shot it today and am very happy at 100 yards on a bench put 4 shots a dime would cover. I got it at a pawn shop for $400.00 out the door you get a deal once in a life time This was mine.

Sounds like you got a good deal. Congrats. Sorry I may have misled you on my previous post but I was just working from memory which these days my wife says isn't too good. But hey, I'm happy. Good luck with your new purchase.
