Default Ruger Hawkeye vs M77 MKII

Posted-12/18/2007: 9:04:42 PM

I am looking at buying a new bolt rifle in the next couple of weeks. Looking at either a Hawkeye MKII in a 308.
The caliber is not a question, I already have one 308 that I reload forand have a 300 WinMag so I think the field is pretty much coveredand am not interrested in any calibers at this time.
My question is, which is better,, the Hawkeye or the old standby, the M77 MKII. What about triggers, configs, etc?
Thanks for any input.

The Hawkeye has the new "improved" trigger in it, as well as a matte finish on the stainless. If it was me I'd go with the Hawkeye because of those two new features.

Not a whole lot of difference. The hawkeye has a new trigger and "improved" ergonomics. I do not know how good the new trigger is, and if you buy the gun from a good shop they will spruce it up for almost nothing. Price isnt a whole lot different, depending on what you want. Check out ableammo.com, they have a good selection and this will give you some prices.

The newer model also has a better recoil pad.

All that I can tell is it is the M77 MKII with a new trigger, more ergonomically friendly and a new recoil pad. I am a huge fan of the M77! Great guns!
