There's 3 handguns that I grab 1 of there 3 when going expressly handgun only hunting. #1 is a ruger superblackhawk that I built a 5 shot .454 casull on,#2 is my contender with 30-30 aI and 30-30 aI necked down to 7mm,and my encore with 15" 7mm08 barrel for long range handgunning. As far as small game,my contender with K hornet,.22mag,and .22Lr barrels,or one of my ruger slabside competition gets the nod.

I usually use either my T/C Contender in 7-30 Waters or 35 Rem or my S&W 29, 44 mag. The 7-30 is topped with a Burris 2-7X scope and the 35 has a 3x T/C scope. The 44 is topped with a Cabela's multireticle scope.

Im new to the hand gun hunting, kind of. I tried it last year with a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag. Gun shot alright for me. I ended up taking the gun and trading it for a TC Contender in stainless with the rynite grips in 7-30 waters. Acquired the gun after deer season so I purchased a 45lc/410 barrel for it and took a few rabbits with it. I put a bushnell 2-6x32 scope on the 7-30 barrel and have that dialed in for this years gun season. That gun off of sand bags will shoot sub moa all day long. It shoots better than some of my rifles. Can any of you other contender ownersvouch for your trigger pull? I think the person whom owned the gun prior had some work done to the trigger. Needless to say the gun flat out shoots and I cant wait to use it this year. I think it will be my main carry unless we are going to do some driving.

Most contenders have a decent factory pull but for the best results you really need to have it slicked up where the trigger breaks like a glass rod. I have my contender's trigger set at 1.5 pounds.

For deer hunting I take two pistols, one for long range: T/C Encore 7mm-08 topped with Burris 3-12 ball plex & par adj shooting a 139g SST handload(also have .223 with Burris 2-7) and one for short range and stalking: Ruger SRH .44 mag with open sights shooting a 240 gr hardcast handload.
I also have a Savage Striker in 7mm-08 that I picked up a few weeks ago and am working on various handloads to see what it likes.
