Not as a complete firearm you can't. A few complete uppers havemade it into civilian hands but are commanding prices in the $5000 range. I believe the lowers are registered as machine gun and thus not able to be owned by civilians. A recent article alludes to amanufcaturer in NH possibly beginning manufacturing these for Hk but again, it's still unknown if this will work so HK will allow them to be in the civilian market. It's not a new concpt anymore and other manufacturrs are using a similar operating design now. many clamor for the 416 but I seriously doubt all those asking for them would actually pay the price they'd command. With it being what it is, I'd say a street price would be up over $2000 easily.
I'm not a black gun person so it's not one I'd clamor for or buy.

You can get a Class 3 license (I think that is what it is) to get one. I hear that is quite costly tho. I like the piston gas system. The receiver looked just like another M16 (whoopdeedoo) but the similarity is cosmetic. Barrel is under 11" so that makes it a law enforcement only piece.

Actually, no you can't. These are new production full auto registered recievers so they're not saleable legallyexcept toLE or military. Bbl length doesn't automatically make it LE only. A proper tax stamp for such a Class III firearm (SBR)is obtainable bycvilians.

if you call H&K, they will happily tell you that they only sell semi auto, normal capacity riflesto police and militaries.
Well, they sell the SL8 and USC. They're having to beimported in a manner that prohibis them from accepting any current hi-capacity magazines. can't get by that regualtion without building them stateside. Doing that would be a very costly investment an with the pirces of these being a bit cost prohibative to most it'd be a rather unwise investment for them. Just a guess here, but I'm sure such a long standing company has a weee bit more knowledge of operations than most that gripe about them.
