My nephew just picked up a new 700 in the .300 Win.,I did the trigger for him..came from the factory at 6.5 lbs. and it took forever to adjust down to 3 lbs...[]

A young fellow had one in a 700 model 7 awhile back and was complaining how hard the trigger was to pull.I don't remember what it was on but I adjusted it down to 3 lbs without a problem.I am trying now to remember what it even looked like but I think it had only two screws.I have slept since then.
I did shoot a 3 shot group with his factory loads and liked the trigger,

i just bought a 700 SPS Varmint. the trigger is a little stiff...but clean and breaks nicely..hardly any travel at all...just a bit stiff. since its a dedicated groundhog gun i plan to drop it..or have it dropped..dont know if i wanna mess with it, though it sounds simple...and dont know if gunsmiths will take it down for me...

then again im used to shooting my mauser with original trigger. moved a good 1/4 inch before it got stiff...then it take another 1/4 inch at about 20 lbs(or so it seems) to get a bullet out of it! lol

I have two Rem 700's that I bought in the past 5 months. One I believe is the old style and the other the new. I adjusted both. Both looked very similar. In the older, the screws were larger and easier to adjust. In the newer the screws were much smaller, none of my allen wrenches seemed to fit properly. In both metric and standard wrenches, the screws appeared between sizes. In any case, I was able to get both adjusted to a nice 3lbs.
