Ruger 7722 mag scope rings

I'm a little bummed out. I picked up a used Ruger 7722 magnum at the gunshow and wanted to mount a 3-9x40 nikon scope. I presume it has standard medium rings. Anyhow, there is enough play in the bolt throw that if i were to firmly lift up it would just barely tap the side of the scope. Anyone had the same problem.Any recommendations onaftermarket rings or should I look into a different scope?Anyone have a specific scope that fits their 7722 with the standard rings?

Oh, this is timely as I'm looking at the K77/22 VMBZ 22 WMR

Do let me know whow you make out. I did read somewhere that the rings are different height and that the high ring is to be at the rear of the receiver.

You may be on to something. I looked at the ruger website and it showed the ring bases being different heights. Just to confirm, I looked at my .270 ruger and this was the case. I then looked at the 7722 mag and noticed both ring bases were the exact same size. Perhaps the dealer I bought it from didn't realise they were mis-matched. I only need about 2-3 mm additional height for a proper fit. Unfortunately it looks like it will cost me a bit of $ to get new rings. My great deal on the rifle now appears to only be a good deal, and I still haven't shot it yet.

The rings on 77/22s and mag versions are same height front to back. The reason they are different height in full size model 77s is because of it being based on mauser 98 action. Ruger makes taller rings as well as several other aftermarket ruger style rings.
