Default Sako 85 control round feed

I was thinking of getting a control round feed rifle in 338 WM. I have had or still have Rugers, Kimber, and Winchester classics. So how does the controlled round feed of the Sako 85 compare. I hope to put my hands on one in few weeks to look it over, but any information would be helpful.

The Sako 85 is actually more similar to a Winchester Model 70 controlled round push feed action. On the Rugers Kimbers and 70 classics the extractor picks up the next round right out of the magazine. With the 85 the extractor doesn't actually grab on to the next round until you push it a little ways into the chamber. When you get to check out an 85 grab a snap cap and try it. You'll notice the difference from your other guns right away. It's not a bad thing. Still a high quality Sako, but not what I have in mind when I think controlled round feed.

Load a round while upside down, like being pounded.

Thanks for the info. I do like the way my Sako 75 in 270 WSM feeds so smooth. It is much better than my wife's Kimber Montana. I just think a Kimber montana would kick a little harder than a Sako due to the weight. I have had a 338 WM in a Ruger many years ago and a also a Browning. Both were OK but I like the Sakos and Kimbers better. I was looking to get a dedicated elk rifle again. I always felt a little better knowing that if I did my part that my 338 WM could put them down no matter what angle they werefacing. I don't feel that same way about my 300 WSM. I could be wrong in wanting another gun.... no, its never wrong to want another gun!!

I have to agree with you. I"™m on my third Sako 75 and looking for any excuse in getting another one. Nothing wrong with another rifle, especially if you"™re talking about Sako...
