Default New 338 Win mag which rifle?

I would like to buy a 338 win mag but can't decide on which one. Browning just introduced thea A-Bolt Grade III w/ Octagon barrel that I like. Or would you try to find older Model 70 in good shape. what do you guys think.

Thanks in Advance

What other rifles do you now own and like the feel of ? Every brand chambers in .338 so get whatever is your preference. I personally have never liked m70 rifles but thats purely subjective and its about fit not quality.

TerryM's correct....go out and try the fit of as many rifles as you can to see how they feel to you. Everyone has their own dimensions, and some will fit you as an individual better than others.
I, myself, have a Mod. 70 XTR .338 I've used for years and really like it. Someone else may think it's a P.O.S. That's what fit means to different people.

Currently I have a .270 Model 70 and a Rem 700 in 7mm mag. I love both of these rifles. I had the 7mm pillar beded and a trigger job done, but I would not trsde either of these for anything. I do load my own ammo.

What about Tikka T-3 Hunter w/ the sako action?

Iown both a Tikka and a Sako and they are both excellent rifles. The only warning I would give you is that the T3 is quite light and would kick like hell in .338.

Both Tikka and Sako have the same barrel but the actions are different although they are both very smooth...

Utah1-

I have a Ruger No 1B in .338 Win Mag and love it. Sometimes you find a gun that fits right from the get go. Sometimes you have to adapt yourself to a gun when you buy it. Find the best fit that meets your budget and is of good quality so you're not dissatisfied after you buy it. Then go shoot the hell out of it and learn every facet of that rifle. Now, you two will be pals and kick some critter's butt everytime you go afield!!
Good luck!

In my humble opinion, the browning a-bolt action is the best factory action on the market available. 3 locking lugs,60 degree bolt throw, concealed detachable mag,mag has scissor spring instead of W spring, factory glass bedded, fully adjustable trigger, tang safety, bolt handle shaped for quick, comfortable operation,-what more could you possibly ask for?

The Abolt does offer alot but my own choice would be a Kimber in 338 wm.. I own one and love it. Pay a little more but you get a lot more.
Glass Bedded, free floated, match grade chamber, match grade trigger. A rifle that has a great fit and feel. The classic is what I have cuz I prefer wood..

If you want to build one then a model 70 action with a claw extractor or maybe mauser 98 would be a good action to build off of..

Good Luck.

Can't go wrong with the A-Bolt in my opinion. My second choice would more than likely be a Tikka T3.
