Default Is the 338 Federal all that.

Reading about the 338 Federal and I had to ask myself, is it really that good. I'm not impreassed I would rather have my 35 Whelen after reading the specs.

It must be pretty damn good. They want $40 for a box of ammo...

I like the way it looks, simply because I'm not a "magnum" kind of guy, and it looks like it would be a good choice for bears, elk, moose, and maybe the larger African antelopes. But, they need to get that price down. It can't possibly cost almost three times as much to manufacture a box of .338's as it does to manufacture a box of .308's.

If you have a 35 Whelen, there would be little point in the 338 Federal unless you want the short action. Both rounds are great for NA big game I have a 35 Whelen but I will brobably try the 338 Federal as well. I am just that lind of guy.

I got the 35 Whelen in the Remington 750 carbine and love the gun, 1 round hasn't cycled when it was new but the 100 or so I have shot since have worked great. Accurate too, even though I have a 1.5-4 scope. I was just reading about it and asked why anybody would develope a 338 Federal when the 35 Whelen is there. Guess it's just a catchy thing to sell gun but I have to wonder how much room the gunshops have on the shelves.

Its selling point may be the short action. Some really prefer them to the long action. Others like me just like to try everything.

I do however have a list of keepers that will always be in my safe as long as I can use them.
