Default Shot my first full autos!

The local indoor range had their annual Valentine's Day Full Auto Shoot last night. They let folks come in with < 2,000 fps weapons, & share with everyone else. I got to handle a MP5, Uzi, & Mini-Uzi, all in 9mm. I also went through a couple o' magazines with a Thompson in .45.

My thoughts? It waseerily similar to going to an amusement park: really crowded, long waits in line, and the rides, while thrilling, were awfully short! I made a whole bunch o' noise with 'em, but I wasn't able to put too many rounds where I wanted 'em to go. Plus, 2 to 5 seconds of shooting wasn'tvery fulfilling. Even when I tried to slow fire, those li'l suckers just kept flying outa there.

When I got my AR15a while back, I was beguiled by the prospect of emptying 30 round clips in quick succession. Imagine how much hair that would grow on one's chest! I was let down, however, when I couldn't put many rounds into the target that way. The steak didn't match the sizzle, so to speak. In that same vein,I found that spraying lead in real life wasn't anywhere near as romantic as they make it look on TV.

As I've gotten back into shooting and hunting over the past couple years, the best part for me has been the hard work of getting the bullets to go to the same place time after time. I've found that not all that many people can do it very well. Plus, there's that neat little maxim about makingone's first shot count...

Given the regulatory hassles, the pain in cleaning, not to mentionthe obscene costs involved in trying to buy one, I don't see myself joining the full auto club. But hey, it was a good lesson to learn for only $5 plus the cost of ammo.

A buddy of mine was jonesing to go to Knob Creek this year for their full auto shoot, but I think I'll pass.

I have never fired an MP5, but had to destroy a couple during Desert Storm. I have firedmachine guns such asthe M2, M60, and M249, and it was a blast. I have also fired the M-16 on full auto and accuracy in full auto is far from great. That is one of the reasons given by the govt for getting rid of full auto and adding the 3-round burst, lack of accuracy. 3-round burst sucks as well though.

well my uncle is a firearms instructor/sniper for the police dept. and luckily holds a class III. I have shot the full auto M-16, not too impressed really, not fired an UZI yet. I have used the German MP-3, FN FNC, WWII Thompson, FAL, AK-47, and a few other misc. full autos. However I live to shoot the MP-5. It is honestly my all around firearm. Granted its limited on range but the Navy model I shoot will feed ANY ammo you give it, and I can drive tacks with that baby, even the first time i shot it. Excessive fire rate. Only negative on them is the MP-5K PDW another officer owns will feed *only* ball ammo. Will not feed a hollow point to save its life but still awesome.
