Default Savage 16FLSS or 116FLSS???????????

Any reviews of these models would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a left handed, bolt action, syn, SS barrel in one of the following cals, 7-08, 308 or 270, etc. This model Savage seems to fit my needs. Pros and Cons needed. Thanks.

Savage rifles are good shooters. Are you debating on a long-action versus a short-action, as implied by the either or in the title?

Red Lion,

I am debating on long or short action. Does the size of the action depend on the cal? Any pros and cons to action size? Any info on these models would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well stated Stalkingbear. It really will come down to which caliber you find the most attractive for thegame and type of hunting you wish to do.Example, if you wish to hunt whitetail only a 7mm-08 in short action or a .270 in long action would both work well. That will decide for you whether it is a long or short action. Ihave a Savage American Classic .300 win mag in long action and I love the rifle. I bought that particular caliber, as I wanted something that would be well suited for large North Amercian game and had a pretty good bullet selection. I also got it in blued with laminated stock, as I like the look better than SS and synthetic.I hope that helps a bit.

Actually, a 7mm-08 and a .308 will kill an Elk just as well out to 300 yards. It all depends on how you hunt. It all boils down to what type of conditions do you hunt whether it be short or long range, spot and stalk, still hunting, tower blind, prairies as far as the eye can see, thick brush, yada yada, what caliber and cartrige do you feel comfy with, heavy or light, yada yada. 6X5 Swede on up are more then cabable of taking Elk, Moose, and Bearwithin reasonable balistic ranges, IMO.

I do not own either, but they are likely the exact same, outside of one being long action and the other short action. I have a savage 10ML-II in SS and synthetic stock and love it. Very accurate and sturdy, but the synthetic stock is flimsey though. I already stated that I have a savage American Classic and like that very much as well. THe accutrigger is a very nice feature as well. That is about as close to good feedback as I can get you.

the barrels on these rifles come free floated so the flimsy forearm on the synthetic stocks will not effect accuracy at all. i have yet to see one that shot bad. i was looking to nuy the same rifle myself until i checked with 2 dealers and they couldn't find one in lefthand at any of there distributors. i ended up buying a tikka t3 in 270 in lefthand ,it didn't cost much more and has a great trigger and stock.

I have a 116ffss but changed the stock to a laminate and if I could get my pic small enough I will load it on here. It shoots great and will serve you well,oh ya mine is .300wm with a 3X9X40 nikon buckmaster scope.
