I have a Savage 111 in .300 Win Mag, which is the same as the Stevens, and it has shot great, I also have a Savage Weather Warrior.

The stevens is an awesome rifle for the money. I bought mine from bass pro about a year ago for $199 on sale. I just couldn't pass on this deal. The .270 shoots excellent groups, however I just bought a replacement stock for it.

Here's one for ya. I have a Stevens 30-30 that was made in 1946. It still shoots like the day it was made. The gun has not broke, or rusted out in 60 years. It has been used in hard woods, swamps, swails, sun, wind, rain, and snow. Great rifle!!!

Stevens/Savage definently have a storied history when it comes to firearms, they have been around for a long time. And they do build quality guns.

They may not always look like a top notch gun, but any that I have ever owned or shot always performed on par with a top notch name brand gun. They are the International of the gun world (back when International was still building automobiles), they dont always have the looks, but they will still be working just as long as any other high end gun will.

I bought a Stevens in 25-06 this year. Shoots 1 1/2 " groups at 200 yds. Very good shooter.

VERY DEPENDABLE.
If possible I highly recommend to spend the extra money to get the accutrigger model, add a better stock later on.
You may also consider a .243(although notas cheap to shoot, it is way more versatile)and later on getting a custom .308 barrel...
a top notch stock is a must.
add a stainless bolt for "class"
This setup paired with good optics will shoot with ANY rifle there is, and is a lot cheaper and more personal.

Actually, I think the Savage could hang with any rifle there is, with the scope that comes with the package, out to about 300 yards.
