Default Stevens 200 or charles daly 98?

Looking at buying either a stevens 200 or charles daly 98 in a .308 for both. The prices are almost identical for new. I like the stock of the daly better because of the cheekpiece. Any opions which is the better of the two. The daly has been discontinued, but is the same gun as the now Remington 798. Thanks.

I think the Charlest Daily is a better rifle than the Stevens.

Stevens is a potentially better gun but without the savage acutrigger, it is not as good as the Savage 110. The charles daly is a great and strong gun and is reasonable accurate. Might be hard to find one now that Remington now has the exclusive importing rights to Zastava arms who ised to make the charles daly

I think stevens may be the better gun. But as a huge mauser fan I would say spring for the 98. If nothing else you have a timeless action to build a custom gun on later down the road. The Savage action ain't bad, but we're talking about a mauser. Give it to a good 'smith and watch it become a piece of art. Don't...and well, you've still got a mauser.

Like I already said, I would buy the daly in a heartbeat and consider it an investment for fatter days. (I believe most mausers, including the 98, are neither "long" or "short" so you can have a barrel in any non-magnum caliber put on it. If you want a magnum just have the 'smith change out the bolt face while he's at it.)
