Here is a list of specs on this particular rifle:

The action is a Remington 700 that has been completely "blue-printed" to Bench Rest specifications. The action has been set up as a single shot by bedding a Davidson bench rest block to the action...

The barrel is a Hart Match Grade stainless steel barrel that is 1.450" in diameter and 30" in length. It has a 1 in 8" twist for the heavy VLD bullets...

The caliber: 6mm-284...

The stock is a McMillan MBR that has been weighted to ten pounds...

The trigger is a Jewell 2 oz. Bench Rest...

The scope is a Weaver 36X that sits in a set of Burris Signature Xee rings that have nylon inserts to allow for adjusting the scope to strike point of aim at 1,000 yards while the scope stays optically centered and still has full windage and elevation adjustments...

With load development just beginning on this rifle, shooting Hornady's 105 gr. A-MAX bullets, this gun will keep 5-shots inside a 2" circle at 600 yards and do it on a very consistant basis...

As a side note here, I do NOT recommend anyone ever trying to shoot a deer at 1,000 yards unless you are specifically equipped for it and have the knowledge and know how to shoot at long range! I have spent many years perfecting the shooting dicipline it takes to be able hit a target at extreme ranges. Please do NOT use this as a post to start bad mouthing. I just thought I would share a couple of pictures for you to see as most guys have never seen a rifle like this before and I thought some of you might find it interesting....

I almost forgot. The total weight of the gun as it sits is 29 pounds....

Sweet gun! Heavy, too.

One question: Why is the barrel recessed?

What do you mean by the barrel being "recessed"?
