I'm not going to get into all the details, unless someone makes me , but I will never take another weapon to Gander Mountain for gunsmithing. Gander Mountain was one of my favorite stores to shop at until just a few days ago. I'm 47 years old, and I received the worst customer service I've ever received from any place that I've done business with. I hope all of the Gander Mountains are not as bad as the one in Aurora,Colorado. It makes me sad to loose one of my favorite stores, but thank God for the new Bass Pro Shop they just put in!!!

Please Note: Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone who needed gunsmithing should choose another place other than Gander Mountain.

I'd have to say that the Bass Pros and Gander Mountains, etc. are a GREAT notch above the "Wally Worlds," but they are still geared for mass marketing! For "expert" service you are still better off paying a little more for specialty shops, when it comes to guns and optics!

Something similar happend to me there.I purchased a bow sight. It was 125.00.I got the guy to install it for me.Took my bow to the range and everytime I shot my bow it got louder and louder. My sight freakin fell half way off.I could not figure it out.So I took I took it to a local archery shop and the guy from gandermountain had stripped one of the mounting screws. He had to of realized he stripped the screw. If anyone has stripped a screw before you know when it when you do it.He never said a word.I wouldnt let them work on my bbgun.
i agree that the service is crappy in teh gun section... the other areas of the store seem ok camping/fishing/clothing/archery i have always gotten good service. The gun area as a whole has always been crappy for service. Its like there to good to help you and not worth there time.. someone should Email this thread to the customer service at Gander so they can see it all.

Any day outside is a good day. Sometimes you have to stand up for whats rite, even if your the only one.
Go to one of the big box stores (Bass Pro, Gander, Caabela's, hell even Wally World on occasion) if you know exactly what you want, need no assistance, expect crappy service, and want to save some money. If you are looking for anything else from one of those places you will be sadly dissapointed. Buy froma store, have work done by a profesional. Would anyone out there let the salesman who sold you your car perform mechanical work on that car?
Well guys I have to agree w/ you and disagree w/ you at the same time. See I've worked at the gun counter at Gander Mtn. I have seen a few gunsmiths that are very good.. and some that aren't... same goes for other employees.
So I've seen both sides of the coin..
If you have a problem.. let a manager know.. and they will do their best to rectify the situation.
Also Aurora Co has the gunsmith school that Gander hires it's gunsmiths from... some of the students work at the store part time for experience. Gander is the largest employer of gunsmiths in the country. Just FYI.
Personally I try to share my passion for the outdoors w/ every customer that comes to the gun counter. But there are times when the counter is soo busy.. that you just don't know which way is up. You'll be helping a customer and other customers will jump in w/ their questions/needs and take away from the customer that was already being helped.
Selling a gun isn't like selling a pair of shoes.. you have to show the customer the guns they want to see... sometimes several... then sometimes the customer has to weigh his/her options... make his/her choice, have the customer fill out the 4473, run to the back to search for the gun or box to the gun on the shelf, have the customer correct the parts of the 4473 that they filled out incorrectly, verify all the info on the 4473 w/ their picture ID, call in the 4473 to NICS, sell the firearm, walk the customer to the front of the store, transfer the firearm, ect... Which all can take up to 20min depending on the circumstances. All of this while there are 10 other customers at the counter wanting to do the same.... or just ask a simple question.
Not to mention.. no matter how many thousands of guns we have in stock.. the customer always wants somethingthat we don't have. Which requires a special order. And they always come in wanting something that they just seen in the latest gun magazine that isn't even in production for the next 6 months.. and want to know why you don't have it in stock.
OK... rant mode off.
Just a little look at the other side of the counter. Personally I try to help every customer that comes to the counter. If I don't have what they need.. I will do my best to get it for them as fast as possible. I try to help them with any questions or concerns and awnser any questions to try to help them make the best educated decision.
