An update on my 1911 .45 ACP (Rock Island Armory - from the Philippines)
Many of you have shot the venerable, timeless classic, .45 ACP from military bootcamp days, or LEO days, etc...
I wanted to share a little update on my full size Rock Island Armory 1911 "Rock Series", that was made in the Philippines and distributed through Pahrump, Nevada.
I now have roughly 400-450 rounds through it, and it STILL hasn't jammed or had any FTF, FTE, magazine problems, yada yada yada... Just amazing perfection and flawless performance, out of an inexpensive 1911 ($430 bucks from Bud's Gun Shop in KY)!!!
Les Baer, Kimber, Colt, Springfield Armory, etc... all make fantastic 1911 .45 ACP's and things like that. Now don't get me wrong - they are all top quality, but cost THREE TIMES the price of my Rock Island Armory! ...just sayin'
Here is an updated photo that I took after I got a nice pair of custom made checkered grips with the USCG logo, and made out of waterproof Teak. I love them!
Lastly, and very very recent (this past weekend!), this is a scan of one of the targets from out at the outdoor range, shot at 12 yards. Sorry about the two shots low and left... Probably did something stupid, and not focusing on the front sight, keeping my head still, etc...
In closing, who else has a 1911 .45 ACP?

Damn. Did an internet search because I was confused thinking Rock Island Armory was Rock River Arms. Anyway, I came across a thread regarding RIA 1911s in another forum. Slightly old thread. The content is very good. Lots of positive comments about RIA.

Thank you OP for turning me onto RIA. Will seriously consider buying one.

Thanks guys...
The factory trigger is set at 5 lbs (from what I've read) and has no creep or anything like that. It's a heavy steel framed 1911 and built like a tank! If you ever run out of ammo, just beat a perpetrator over the head with it! LOL..
Rock Island Armory is actually owned by the Philippine company Armscor. http://armscor.com/
Here's my actual RIA 1911 .45 ACP listed on Bud's Gun Shop site selling now for $450...

Not bad shooting. I wish I had a target I shot with my Taurus PT-1911.
As for having a 1911 I believe as an American gun owner there are a few guns that you should own just because. I believe every American shooter/hunter should have a 1911 (45ACP), a Win 94 (30-30), a .22 LR , a 30-06 and a single action revolver in their collection if not only for the sake of nostalgic value!!

I have the Ruger SR1911. I love it!! My only complaint is the slide is tough to pull back. Like you I have not had any jams and is more accurate then I could possibly shoot. Wonder if a lighter spring would resolve the issue in pulling the slide back?

The standard, historical, legendary, full size 1911 has always had a 16# recoil spring. It's just the way it is and always has been. A lighter spring would be okay, but you might run into problems with certain ammo. I would leave the Ruger SR1911 alone like I am with my Rock Island....

Ed, I don't know how you rack your slide but if you are puling it back between your thumb and forefinger that may be your problem. Try cupping your hand over the slide at the ejection port and using you whole hand to rack the slide back.
