Ammo prices have gone way up and just wondering if I am gonna hurt my fully rifled 11-87 but using foster style slugs to do the basic sight-in with a new piece of glass. Heck of alot cheaper than copper solids or other sabots. Not planning to hunt with the sluggers, but they always knocked down the deer I wacked with them out of the smoothbore.

If you are just looking to use them instead of boresighting they should be ok to get you on paper up close. However at longer distances they may have a slightly different impact point. It is not uncommon for my gun to shift impact points when I change ammo. So you would still need to sight in with whatever ammo you decide to use.

You will also have to clean the barrel very well when you are done, and accuracy may fall off after 3 or 4 shots. It won't hurt it though, just makes a mess. I actually hunted with brenneke rifled slugs out my fully rifled rifle last year. Mine actually shoots some of them pretty well...., for about 4 shots.

I do that just to get the shots on the target, then the final sightin is with the ammo you plan on using. No sense in wasting good money just to get on the paper.

I do it. sluggers are great for sightin. Its really only once. Just run a brush thru real good and you will never have problems.

Good info kids... Still wondering why I upgraded to the rifled barrel? Never tossed a slug at a deer further than 50yds and at that range the sluggers worked great with the rifle sighted smoothbore. Come to think of it, I used to thump them pretty good out of the 1100 with a 28" mod choke bird barrel. They did foul up the action of the 1100 and I am not the guy to give the action a proper cleaning. Still remember stripping an old marlin .22 and never getting itback together again. That was 25 years ago, but oncebitten. I really don't mind cleaning the barrel when sighting in any of my guns.Slows me down. Rock On...

Simple rule. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Range that is.

Pulled off the Holosight and tossed on a newVX1 2X7 shotgun scope on the 11-87. Sighted it in at 50ft using sluggers but did not worry about elevation just windage. Pushed the target out to 50 yds and moved over to copper solids. Had it dialed in like a dream after 5 rounds with the rounds touching 2 inches high. That should put it pretty much right on the money at 75 yds.Gonna see how the gun likes other sabots, but not sure I can shoot it any better even if the gun will. Had a blast throwing away ammo but do have to say I sure like that Past Recoil shoulder bib. Rock on and I wanna shoot something.
