Default Smith and Wesson 500mag

Anyone own or shot a S&W 500 mag??? I am wanting to buy one. Big recoil does not bother me. I have shot the 454 and 44's and handle them fine. I have read alot of reviews on it and they are all good if you want big hand cannons..

Any thoughts...

Kevin...

I have shot several into a test tank and to be honest the recoil wasn't all that bad. The recoil was more like a big shove rather than a quick slap. The compensator on those does a good job at minimizing recoil.

If you can handle the .454 the .500 will be no problem, I have a .500 with 4"bbl, loaded some 700 gr. bullets that were a handfull but anything else is a walk inthe park.

My buddy has a Performance Center 500 with the muzzle brake on it. The gun isn't bad at all to shoot. It is alot more pleasing than any 44mag I've shot.

My father owns the Performance Center 500 with a Leupold Scope on it. After a few bullets it's not too bad. I never shot many pistols, until the 500. So I wasn't quite sure what to expect. He killed a whitetail at 45 yards with it this past year. The deer was stading along a creek and my dad was on a hillside. He shot the deer free handed with the 500 and saw a large splash in the creek, he thought he missed. The deer ran about 50 yards and fell over. The gun is pretty awesome. We shot a 2 inch group at 37 yards with the Hornady Bullets. The bullets are pricey but I'll pay for the performance. I planned on using the gun this coming weekend during our doe only season but I have to leave town for work, bummer. Anyways, it's quite the handgun. Just be ready when you shoot it and hold on with both hands.

Go with the 460. Its a much better gun than the 500. The 500 isnt even fun to shoot. I can shoot 2-3 shots with the 500 and not want to shoot it again for a few weeks, the 460 i can shoot all day long, and thats withthe 460 factory loads, when i put in the 454 loads i can shoto back to back all day long.

I love to shoot me .500, as far as the .460 it would be a great choice also. If I were you I would find someone with a .500 and run a few rounds through it.
