RE: mossburg ATR 270 or30.06
This rifle is reviewed in the Nov, 2005 issue of the American Rifleman (the NRA's monthly mag). the writer, Mark Keefe, wrung it out with 3 different '06 loads; the federal low recoil 170 gr, the Hornady 150 grn sst, and theblack hills 180 grain with barnes x. The federals smallest group wat .9" and fedarals largest was 1.92" for an average of 1.18" This is very good accuracy for any rifle. With handloads or with taking to time to find the perfect ammo types, weight etc, it has the potential to be a great shooter. Keefe says that it has some rough points cosmeticly, and your choices of finish and caliber are limited. But that is why it is so cheap. He also called it the Mossberg 500 of rifles. That is high praise. But I wouldn't get the package. Buy the rifle for under 300 bucks and get a bushnell 3200, leupold rifleman, burris fullfield, nikon prostaff, or weaver v series and you will still be under 500 bucks. What is cool is that it is available in a cammo stock. The other good choice for a cheap rifle, the steven 200 by savage, is available only in black.
good luck
