1911 .45's

I really like the looks of springfield's GI .45 1911-A1, i also don't mind the price, was looking for a 1911 for around the same price with a 5" barrel, anyone have any opinions, thanks a lot

Springfield 1911's are about the best 1911 for the money.

However if you are going to want to add after market parts you may as well get them already on the gun. It will be much cheaper on the long run to go ahead and get what you want on it now then to do it piece by piece.

A couple things you will immediately find out that you want will be a beaver tail grip safety and different sights.

I agree with the Springfield. For the money you WONT beat it!!! Is it a Kimber? Hell no, but it's 1/2 too as much as 1/4th the price. It does what it's supposed to do, shoot and not be finicky unless you put sorry ammo in it.

For a great OTC gun I agree, the Kimber is hard to beat. If you are going to spend over $700 for a 1911 you would be a fool NOT to at least look at them. If you want a truly tricked out and high dollar custom (over $2k) then look at some of the offerings from Wilson Combat. I have a few buds on our local TACT squad and they swear by the WCs, but also admit that there is a fine line between what the WCs do and what a Kimber costing half as much does!!!

But for under $500 you simply CANT beat the Springfield. I have sold many of them and too the man, each customer loves the gun more as time goes on. They are good solid purchase for the money,

The Kimber CDP Pro is outstanding and accurate. Offered with the 5" barrel with bushings. A competiton pistol for a couple of bucks more than many standard models.

The milspec is a really nice gun. I ended up going to a Loaded model because I like the ambi safety, beavertail grip and better sights after considering the cost of upgrading the milspec to those standards. I still might end up buying a milspec in the future too.

For a plane jane 1911a1, the Springy Milspec is tough to beat. Charles Daly and Rock Island have similar models for about the same price or cheaper, but their quality is nowhere near as good and my stance on Charles Daly's where I won't touch them with a ten foot pole stands.

For a really nice 1911a1 that's better finished than the milspec and arguably better made, check out the Colt 1991a1- though it will cost double of the milspec.

Seems funnyhow .45's seem to be judged against Kimber. I had a friend out this past weekend shooting mine and he commented on how well the gun shot. I guess I feel if you're only gonna have one .45, make it a good one, make it a Kimber.

thanks guys for the replies, it seems that springfield makes good guns for the money, they also seem to be reliable and function pretty nicely, I know everyone mentions Kimber but i can't see myself spending the money, thanks anyway for the replies

I have owened both Kimber and Springfield. The only thing I did not like about the Springfield was the sharp edges. You could cut yourself in a heart beat. You could not beat their warranty Kimber 1 year Springfield is lifetime. I had to send mine back once it was painless.![/align]
