Default A Pair of 17 HMR's.....

Was at a NRA dinner last week and a there were quite a few things available for silent and live auctions as well as raffles. One of them was a Savage 17 HMR (which I didnt win [:@]) and for some reason I have had the 17 bugever since[:-]

I was at Cabela's doing my weekly shopping and decided to see what they had to offer. I looked at most makes including Rem, Savage, NEF,CZ,Cooper,Sako,Marlin etc.

I finaly decided on getting a Ruger stainless boltand a Anschutz. They are both in 17 HMR. The Ruger is alot heavier, due to it's massive reciever.I mounted a Leupold 3x9 on her and with it's 24 inch med heavy barrel she weighs in at 8 lbs 6 oz.
The Anschutz on the other hand is a bit lighter. With a Zeiss 6.5x20x50 mounted atop and a 23 inch heavy barrel (.750" @muzzle) it only weighs a tad over 7 lbs.

I havent had time to really wring these rifles out like I want to but the german gun seems to be more accurate with the 2 loads I tried.

Here is a pic of the HMR's....

and here are a couple of 5 shot groups fired at 50 yards...

Nice pair of toys you got there.

The rugers feel like a real rifle, but are sort of pricey. I have also heard some complaints about accuracy with them. The other is an awsome gun if you can afford it.

I have a savage heavy barrel and like it quite a bit. After you get a few hundred rounds or so thru them they will tighten up a little more in most cases.

wow those are nice rifles. but that is a terrible group for the ruger at fifty yards. maybe that is to close for the scope. i know my savage will almost shoot the same hole at fifty yards and close to dime at 100 yards on a calm day with the tnt's. nothing wrong with that anschutz that's the way a .17 should shoot. nice guns see yaa

With my ongoing review of the 17 HMR, I can say this....

The little pip squeak of the cartridge worked for me this morning. One 17 grain Remington V-Max fired from the Anschutz did the trick on this javelina at 114 yards. It was through the lungs btw.

Just curious, what did the Anschutz run you? I currently own a CZ-452 American, and I'm looking for better accuracy.
