Default Federal sabot slug Barnes Expander???

I bought a couple boxed of Federal 3/4 oz 1900 fps Barnes Expanders for my SBE II. I am ordering a rifled slug barrel for it.I wanted the higher velocity, lower recoil one because it will still have plenty of power to kill a deer and shoot a little flatter. I was wondering what everyones experience with this slug is?

Thanks
Tom

I tried some out of my H&R USG, it didn't like them. I couldn't get any where near decent groups at 100 yards. I think maybe they are just too fast for my twist or something?

I have heard others that like them. My gun seems to be pretty picky, but these were the worst so far.

As far as performance, these are great bullets. They are pretty popular in the muzzle loading circle. They expand very well and are devastating on game. I would expect simular performance out of a shotgun, if not better with the increased weight and velocity. As long as the accuracy was there in your rifle.

The recoil was up there with any of the other high velocity rounds I have tried.

It is really hard for someone to suggest a particular load for a slug gun. Even if they have the same rifle. These guns tend to be a bit finnicky on what they like from gun to gun. Just because joe blow owns the same gun it does not mean yours will work as well with the same ammo. I had lots of people tell me to get the lightfields for my H&R because they like them. Well not mine. Unfortunately you just need to experiment at the ranges you intend on hunting at. Many I have tried were great at 50 yards, but just seem to fall apart at 100 and beyond.

I shot several boxes of them out of my Mossberg 695. Recoil was just as stout as the 1oz Banes loads. Accuracy was also not as good, but was acceptable out of my gun. The twist rate is just off. The Banes slugs perform great on deer and hogs. I use the Winchester partition gold now. They shoot the best for me out of my gun. You will just have to try them out and see. Good luck
