I would appreciate your thoughts/opinions regarding Glocks, particularly the Model 21 in 45 ACP. I am considering purchasing one, but want to hear comments from previous or current owners. My primary use for the pistol will be home defense, but I'll also carry it while bow hunting in Colorado.
Thanks!
as stated before, i dont like the glock in 45 to light of a pistol for a 45 recoil. get the glock 22 40cal. thats what i have and i take it with me everywhere i go.

I picked one up around 1995, still haven't shot it. My other Glocks (17, 19) are rock solid performers. I don't like them, but they do function without any problems.
My buddy has the 21C with the compinsated barrel. I have a Ruger .45 and his with barrel has half the recoil that mine has.I would swear that when shooting it it feels like a 9mm and not a .45.the price difference is $100 for the cominsated barrel but it is worth it.

You might try a Glock 21 first - the grip is quite a bit bigger than the 9MM/40 models, and too much for me to hold comfortably. I'm 6'2" and 230. Also, the "horsepower" of the .40 Smith and Wesson is considered to be the equal of the .45 ACP. I would buy a Model 22 or 23 for what you want to do with it. Roskoe

I agree with Roskoe about the grip size, you should definitely try one to make sure you like it. I do disagree with SHoNUFF tho, the large frame guns do help with recoil. I have a Glock 20, which is the same exact size but in 10mm. Even shooting full power 10mm, which is quite a bit more powerful than 40 or 45, I have no problems with recoil.
I loved it BUT! I have really big hands. The grip is to big for many if not most people. They shoot very well though. Like all the Glocks I have tried. I don't care for the fact that there is no manual safty and no visable hammer. I am going to try the 45Glock soon.
The Glock 20 & 21 are excellent weapons if they fit your hand comfortably. The recoil isn't really that bad, even in the 10mm. I have a G20 and had a G21, so I've used them both a lot. I'd agree with the above posters however that the G17/22/31 full-size series tend to fit more people better. The .40 S&W and 357SIG are nothing to sneeze at, either one will approach or exceed the 500 FPE mark.
I have never shot one but I have handled tham a few times. I don't care for Double Action Only and I hate the slide release. I don't know what I am doing wrong but it never wants to work easily.
I would buy a Sig, HK or Ruger first.
