My $0.02 worth...

I collect SS, and I'm 100% totally disabled (paraplegic ~ T-7). I hunt & fish, drive a truck, tractor, 4-wheeler & riding lawn mower. That doesn't mean I'm not disabled anymore...it only means I've found ways to do the things I love.

Now if I was to become gainfully employed (or able to do so), it would be a whole 'nother ball of wax.

If your brother is able to work, but is temporarly unemployed because of his disability, I'd say that SS would frown on the "ability" to hunt & fish instead. If he is unemployable, then it's none of their business what he does with his time...or how he does it.

Another angle ~ if he's only able to hunt & fish with some assistance, I don't see how they could find harm in that. After all, who would be able to accompany him to a job? Besides, who'd hire him if he needed assistance?

BTW ~ Welcome to the forum!

Tanka, I think chairman explained it the best. There are many disabled persons still hunting and fishing and getting there checks. I do think there wouldnt be a problem if he isnt doing things he has said he cant do. If he is disabled with a back injury and said he cant lift anything then if he goes out and picks up a 190lb deer and carries it to his truck ,,,,,, well it would look rather strange wouldnt it? I for one would need more info on his disabilty to give you any better awnser to your question.

If Hunters Dont Stand Together, We Wont Be Hunters Long!!!

if your refering to filling out your ss no. on the fishing & hunting licenses, i believe this is to track people who don' t pay their child support, and revoke their hunting and fishing privileges.

tanka

When I was fighting for SS Disability my lawyer said no hnting or fishing.I had already bought a fishing licence and found disabled to the point that the MI. DNR said I could use a crossbow. I think alot depends on the persons additude in front of the judge.
