Default Disability---Weak heart

Hello all,

I live in New York state.Moved here from PA...I have been on disability for 6
years now for anxiety and hyper tention, In 2005 I had 2 heart attacks and
have 2 stents in now..I get short of breath quick as well..Hell.i'm only 58..
How can I get a permit to hunt from my truck? I haven't hunted in the
last two years..Is a permit good in PA as well? My sons all live there...
Or isn't this considered to be a disability? Thanks John....

I suppose it takes awhile to get a permit..Probably too
late for this year..

You can get the form on the PA Game commission site for the PA permit, not sure how the Ny one works.

Just took a look at NY regs. States that permits to hunt from a stationary vehicle are issued to those who require the use of a wheelchair. I wouldn't give up, but I'd definitely have your doc write a letter documenting your illnesses and restrictions on physical activity. Contact info in the regulation guide:http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/07nyhunttrapver1.3geninfo.pdf

It really does vary from state to state. You'll have to read up on the requirements and get the certification required from a physician.

johnny2 -

You mean there are now two 58 year old, disabledhunters in New York State? Who'd have thunk....LOL Welcome.

What you seek may take a while but the permit is good for several years. Each state has its own application process. I have such permits for NY, MN, and WI.

Apply for the Non Ambulatory Hunter Permit application from the NY State D.E.C. even if you are mobile. Have your doctor fill in the necessary data for submission. If you hunt state land, apply also for the Temorary Revocable Permit (TRP) and request a gate key. You will be allowed to unlock the barrier gate and access the service roads of some Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) as well as other state land with your vehicle or ATV. A list of WMA that allow access and the type vehicles allowed can be found online on their website. One last tip is to become very familiar withthe local Wildlife Manager. If you are looking for a place to hunt with access, he may know of landowners who wouldwelcome you.

I have some others tips for the woods if you are interested. Email me. We'll chat.

Rob
