Default barnett recruit cross bow legal in N.Y.S.

I was reading the new regulations in N.Y.S. on cross bows for deer hunting I wonder if the recruit can be used only because it state in the reg: limbs width greater then 17"

This might be a dumb question, but I am not familiar with the recruit. Are it's limbs over 17"? If not I would say it is not legal. Just thinking out loud here.

Pardon my dummy-ness, but I fail to understand what limb length has to do with being legal or not for hunting! By that logic, say a cross bow design with limbs 16.5" that is drop dead accurate and slings bolts a lethal velocity ... not legal for hunting ???

The new regulations say... " The minimum limb width of such crossbow shall be 17" (outer tip of limbs, un-cocked), have a minimum peak draw weight of 100 pounds and a maximum peak draw weight of 200 pounds".

I was heading to the shooting range to day was thinking in taking the new cross bow with me they do have 2 target
1 bag target
1 block target
I did choose the bag target ,I set up the target 10 yards had a buddie check the arrow flight while I used the first red dot seem it was a go.
I did cock the bow sting set the bolt in aimed and fired 4" high next shaft same point of impact.
I moved the target back to 15 yards Bingo aimed dead center still high about 4"
I moved it back to 23 yards about 2" high
I then went to 28 yards right on the money dead center
flight was perfect all arrows excellent group .
Wow: I have no complaints the bow was very quite arrow shot flat no wobble they did fly like bullets.
I now have to see what the other 2 dots in distance will do.
trigger smooth did break like glass ,I now have to see how Muzzy heads 100 grain will fly.
I also have some thunderheads 100 grain
