Talking does custom strings improve a crossbow?

Im looking to purchase a string. Is a custom string better than a manufactures string.Whats the difference ? picking up speed, you get more shots out of it,less wear?
Would like to hear about the type and difference you got out of it.Thanks

I make my own strings and cables, both endless loops and Flemish strings, so I'm more than shocked at some of the prices for some customs; $70-90 for a set of cables and string is way too much. Factory stings are generally pretty good now-for brand name bows. Since string weight is directly related to arrow speed, you're unlikely to gain much speed unless the string is on the light side (fewer strands) which can be a safety issue. Even then it's only likely to get you 5-7 fps faster. How long they last is largely determined by how well they are taken care of and if your bow/arrows have any sharp edges to cause abrasion. Serving wear is largely a function of the type of material used, how tightly it's applied and how the deck is lubed. I think that factory strings are very serviceable, and you're not likely to get a big increase in performance going custom. However, if you're into Flemish strings, those made by Boo are a true work of art.

I replaced my standard string on my Vortex with a factory Excalibur Flemish Superstring. I believe it improved my grouping as well as gave me a little more speed. I shoot the GT LaserII arrows and since the Flemish string is a smaller diamter it centers the flat nock to the serving much better. with the standard string and the GT's the serving / nock didn't quite line up centered. I believe this will greatly lessen he chance of a partial misfire if the string were to slip over the arrow when firing. Just my opinion of course. But I am happy with my replacement. And I have heard great things about the Boo strings. I haven't tried one yet but may get one when I wear out my two factory flemish strings. So far the factory ones are holding up good with very little serving wear and I haven't even flipped ot end over end yet.
