Default No blood trail

A friend of the family hunts with a Barnett Quad 400 crossbow with Muzzy broadheads(idk 3 or 4 blade) and he's been having a problem. He has shot two deer with the crossbow and each time neither deer left any blood on the arrow or on the ground. The first one he shot he didn't find until a couple days later and the second one was luckily found before the meat went bad. He made good shot placement on both so what's the problem?

I've used Muzzy 100 grain 3 blades for many years with both a compound and crossbow with great results. Every once in a great while, fat or something can clog a hole no matter what head you're using. I'm not using 2 blade Rages and I'm extremely impressed with them. With that being said, I don't have anything bad to say about the Muzzy's, they're great heads. I'm guessing his shot placement isn't as good as he thinks it is.

NO blood on the arrow but still killing the deer. Thats one that I have never seen. Little blood yes, but never no blood. Was the arrow covered in fat instead?

Sounds like he may be hitting a little high and the blood is filling the chest cavity instead of pouring out. I have done this and sometimes the blood trail is poor or doesn't even start for 30 yards from where the deer was hit.

I was really surprised with no blood trail with the muzzys so i knew something was up. He's a 50 year old man that has hunted all his life so i'm pretty sure he knows about shot placement but anyway thanks for the help!

OK lets be honest here please. No blood trail at all means either very high chest hit or shoulder blade! Best to shoot the bottom of heart! My limited experience being right at 200 tick toters given dirt naps since 1962!

I question how he can be so certain of his shot placement when shooting a crossbow. Whether I'm shooting a target or a deer, I can't watch the arrow fly through the scope like I could when I shot a compound. The vibration of the crossbow won't allow you to watch the flight of the arrow.
