Default Compound string replacement question

I've been thinking about getting a compound crossbow but the major thing holding me back is re-stringing. Barnett says that their strings can be fired 200 times, so would that mean that after every 200 shots I need to send my bow in for re-stringing? If so then that's a huge disadvantage compared to the recurve which you can re-string on your own.

Yes it is. I recently restrung TWO recurves in about two minutes each. (I remove the stings for the off season). SOME shops can press most compounds, some can't, depending on the amount of crossbow business they do and the shape of your bow.

Only accurate guns- and bows - are interesting.

Restringing is a major issue for you?

My bow shop charges a whopping 3 whole dollars labor to restring my compound xbow. And I have to wait an incredible 5 huge minutes while this massive inconvenience is done.

Ya. I can see your concern.

Sorry I should have mentioned earlier, I'm from the uk and I only know of one shop in the whole of the uk which can replace the string and it's an internet based shop so I would have to package it up and send it off. I think they charge a lot of money to have it done aswell.

just checked the price of their re-stringing service. It costs £80. Think I'll stick with a recurve lol.

If you get a solid limb compound vs split limbs, like most Hortons, you can change the string/cables yourself w/ a gizmo like this. I don't know who makes it, but I've made a few out of hardwood and old bow strings.

TenPoint Crossbows recommends string and cable changes every 2-3years on all of our models, that includes our recurves, to maximize the bows performance. We offer at our factory, an "Early Bird Special", April 1st through July 31 to change string and cables at no labor cost. The bow is then back to factory specifications and ready to shoot. Something to think about when weighing your debate between a compound versus recurve and what company you may decide to go with.
