Rookie Question

Okay I know this is probably a dumb question but here goes.
I am thinking about buying a crossbow and was wondering how to de**** a crossbow at the end of a hunt without having to shoot it.

there's probably alot of xbows that recomend shooting it to de**** it and will say it can or will damage it or you could hurt yourself so check with the manufacturer or sales rep. as for mine i take the bolt out. i put my foot in the foot hold as if you are c***ing it. then i take the safety off. i grab the string and pull up until i feel that i am holding all the pressure(the string lifts slightly and i can hear the trigger get "loose so to speak"). then i pull the trigger (like i am firing) and let it de**** under my control. just make sure you have a really good grip on the string and when you're squeezing the trigger make sure you are constantly pulling up on the string. hope this helps you out and be careful!!!!

Excals & other CB's that don't have antifire device can be let down using yer rope c0cker. Those that do have the antifire have to be shot or & i don't recommend this to noobs a short piece of arrow shaft can fool some antifire devices & you could let it down with rope c0cker beware of the sudden jolt as you pull the trigger

I don't care who says what, unless the mfg has a de****er, DO NOT TRY! First you have to have 3 hands, one to pull the trigger and two to hold the string. Second if you cannot **** the bow with your hands you also will not be able to hold on the string. Most of the mfg have a safty anti dry fire device built in, so you would have to put a projectile in to dislodge it. That will be found in your foot later!!! Just shoot it into a target or the ground when you finish the hunt. Please

So if you go on a weeklong hunt, do you leave it ****ed for the entire week? Or do you fire it each night after a hunt and re**** it each morning?

Best bet is to unc0ck it each time you quit hunting. Many people w/ the lower poundage compounds and recurves have used the 'grab the string' method for years.

Excal has a vid of using the rope c0cker to unc0ck, they go down a lot easier than one would think, as the rope slipping in the groove eats up a lot of energy.

The vid shows putting the hooks on the c0cked string, w/ one handle tight against it's hook and all the rope pulled to the other side, your 'strong arm' side. After double checking the hooks, string still in groove, and while pulling up real hard on the one handle, w/ your foot firmly placed in stirrup, you use your other hand to trip the trigger.

Be advised recurves have the force lessen as the string goes down and compounds increase as the cam effect comes into play.

As w/ any hunting tool, you need to use common sense and caution. If you've mastered keeping your fingers below the rail, it's a safe bet you can remember to remove the arrow.

It took me a few months to work up the nerve to try this w/ my Emax, I kept envisioning the same force as c0cking, my 1st thought was 'piece of cake'. 2nd, life just got better, lol.
