Default new ProChrono

Just had to let you guys know: Awshucks told me my setup was about 279 fps. I got a new ProChrono yesterday and set it up. I shot a bunch of arrows and guess what? 279, 279, 280, 279, 279, 280, 279, 279 and so on. This is why I listen to you guys. You know what you're talking about!

Oh, and I also made my first video of me shooting thru the Chrony at my target. 35 yards and right in the bullseye. No one will ever see the video tho . I don't like to see myself on film. The target, however, is very photogenic.

I'm actually using the dacron string and my arrows are the GT Lasers w/brass inserts and 100 grn heads. My arrows come out to about 432 total. I also have the VariZone scope and decided to site it in at 25 yards. It just so happens that with the lower aiming points on the scope reticle I am shooting 35, 45, and 55. I can use the narrowing of the top multiplex for 15 yards and my arrows are hitting true every time. I tested this by mounting my rangefinder and traveling around the yard and stopping at different distances, ranging and shooting. I am amazed that the arrow hits where I expect it to every time. I really think this is just an example of a perfect setup for what I want to do. I like to call it 'sweet'.

I know that many are using different setups and getting great results but I am not changing a thing until I get a Boo string for next year, then I'll have to reset my scope.

Interesting. My Lazers with 110 bass, Blazers and 100 gr heads come out to 405 grs. (Do you have the heavier target shaft?) I'm shooting them with my own 38 strand Flemish string and a Lumi and getting great consistency out to 50 yards. This Phoenix is my joy bow, love to shoot it. Last night I shot 6 arrows at 20 and they all hit the dime-sized bull on their respective targets. (Should have taken a picture). Have not chroned it recently so I can't confirm the speed. Don't matter. Speed ring is set at 300 and I'm hitting right on at 20 (crosshair) 30, 40 and 50. Not going to change a thing. Some things, with crossbows and handloading, I've learned NOt to question why, just accept them for what they are...and enjoy it.
On the other hand, the Vortex is a bit more open with the same arrow. Will try it with a 125 gr head to see if it likes that better.

I got my arrows from Dan Miller. Another person I trust completely. He set them up for my Ibex. My speed ring is set lower than 300 to what I think would be around 280. Hard to tell, there aren't any increments between the 250 and 300. At 55 yards my arrows hit slightly (3/4 inch) higher than bull so I put the top of the triangle on the bull rather than cover the bull with the whole triangle (for all). These hits are (of course) on a rest and my main practice now is freehand and bipod shooting. According to the calculation thing my arrows have approximately 79 KE. I'll take it!!

This is a great place for a beginner like me to be as far as crossbow setup.

I'm glad you have the same kind of setup. I used to reload .44's for my Ruger and found a perfect hunting load and stayed with it so I hear ya about not messing with what works.

Lol, Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while. As to your arrow weight, am guessing you have 125 gr Slicks or you have some of the older GT's if 100 gr points.

The diff in the two GT shafts is about 20-25 gr. I had/have a mix of them and the weight diffs drove me nuts til I found out why.

There's .007" diff in wall thickness between 'old' and 'new', which translates to about 20ish gr per 20" shaft.

My first clue was Zwickey Grapplers sliding up the shafts while they were in flight. Rubber 'O' ring fix. 21/64 Grappler another choice, but had several 22/64's.

Sounds like you are all set, Laura!!

Well, that's a dang sight nicer than some names I've been called, lol. Btw, think the two o.d.'s on those GT shafts are .337" new and .344" old, via dial calipers which are probably +/- .001". The i.d.'s are the same on both so nocks and inserts interchange.

I am sufficiently embarrassed to tell you that when I weighed my arrows I didn't use my reloading equipment. I used a scale that measured in grams. My arrows weighed 28 grams and I used a conversion program to get the weight in grains. That would be 432.1072.

After reading the diameter measurements Mr Science came up with I measured them myself using a dial calip and a micron. The arrows measured .339. Sooo, I got out my RCBS grain scale and weighed the arrows again. The result was between 403 and 409. Went back to the gram scale and re-weighed the arrows again to see how the reading came up with 28. Batteries were low and fluctuated between 28 and 26.

This is what happens when you don't double-check and if I hadn't made a fool of myself by posting all this information I never would have learned what I learned. If I didn't get any feedback on my post I would have continued thinking my arrows were 432.

And thank you again for another chapter in my education.

I apologize for my mistake and hope I didn't wreck anyone's life by posting bad information. I still have a great setup but the numbers were wrong. Hope I'm forgiven.

Lol, happens to the best of us. My scale measures in gr, gm, dwt, and oz. I once had it on gm instead of gr and made an absolute fool of myself posting, but some kind hearted xbower explained he had done the same thing.

I've read your original post 3 or 4 times now and just saw you stated 100 gr Slicks, DUH!

I was really getting interested in how you might have gotten[possibly] those older GT's when I looked for weeks for them, lol.

No harm, no foul, says a lot about someone who fesses up after they made a mistake.
