Default Quietest crossbow & cocking options

My head is still swimming from the trip to Cabelas and reviewing their crossbows. The TenPoint cb is really nice but besides being heavy, they're a bit out of my price range. Another post recomended the Excaliber regular recurvelimb type (the Vortex andEquinox look nice)and since noise is a primary concern, how do these compare noise-wise to ones with wheels/cams?

The salesperson said one of the biggest accuracy issues arises when cocking the string with uneven pressure side to side. He showed me thecrank system on the TenPoint and how it assuresaccurate centering when the string is drawn back. Not sure if he was justtrying to get me to buy the $2000 package or not? Any help would be appreciated.

He was apparently trying to pad his commission...or knew nothing about crossbows. Unless you are disabled and unable to pull much weight a simple rope cocker will cock the bow the same way that a mechanical device does (I have both, the mechanical from a sales pitch much like you got). Not only much cheaper (less than $30.) but much faster.
As for noise, crossbows are ALL loud. One may be a little quieter than the next one but NONE are as quiet at a vertical bow. Cables and cams don't make that much difference. ( I shoot both kinds). Nor do string silencers. They do reduce the speed of the string, ego the speed of the arrow and limbs, makeing it sound a bit quieter; at the expense of increased trajectory. It will NOT be enough that deer wont be spooked by it, however. Noise is just one of the things one has to get used to with CB's. And they call using one an advantage. Ha.
If money is an issue, try one of the entry level bows offered by a reputable co. like Bowtech, Ecalibur, Parker or Ten point....or a good used bow by same.

If you are looking for a crossbow that is so quiet the it will not spook every deer you shoot at it does not exist. That being said, the most quiet bow that I have heard is an Excalibur Y25 with an STS and some other modifications.

don't worry about the noise so much just concentrate on a smooth accurate shot.....I have killed 5 deer with my barnett revolution, the longest shot being 42yds and haven't had a deer jump the string as of yet....P.S. sold the revolution due to the long trigger pull...good shooting xbow but didn't like the trigger...am in the process of buying a parker cyclone

Nice to see you're still interested tp! Cossack is right, a simple rope cocker will keep your string even. Excalibur has a good video on their websiteshowing the rope cocker. From what you said earlier, I don't think you need the crank. And those entry level bows are plenty for hunting. Good luck.

BTW, get the rope cocker made by EXCALIBUR. It will fit any other bow and is the best on the market.
