I love to archtry hunt, but I now have a pace maker/defibulator and my dr told no more bow hunting with long bows, recurves or compounds, I figured my problem would be getting a permit from my state to shoot a crossbow,WRONG, my problem is finding the right person to help me and sell me what a newb needs, the people I have talked to seems to only want to make a sell or cant seem to answer questions"Cabelas was the worst"
I refer Excal or 'to be' Excal guys to Dan Miller at [740] 483-2312, he's the USA guy for Excals warranty and only sells them. Probably at the ATA also.
For all other bows[and even Excals] Wyvern is the guy to talk to. He's at the ATA show this w/e and real busy. He has a 'netwide' rep for taking care of his customers.
Both are great guys and really know what they are talking about. I 'knew' Dan M before I got a puter and 'met' Wyvern. I got a small order from him and was impressed w/ both price and service.
I just went through the exact same process you are going through. I spent a couple of weeks researching CB's before I made my decision as to what to buy.
I posted my questions on 4 different sites that have CB forums. Then you need to separate the good information from the bad. It is not hard to do if you just take your time.
Then spend some time shopping for your CB.
I thought service was important from my local dealers. And it is very important. However I could not with good conscious pay a $150 premium just to say I bought from a local dealer. And as you said their advice was not necessarily the best. Their advice basially was concerned to the dog they had in the hunt.
I ended up buying an Excalibur Equinox from E-Bay for $125 cheaper than I could get it any where else. And I am very happy with my choice.
Take your time. do not get in a hurry, and ask a lot of questions. I thought a lot of my questions were stupid when I asked them, but I did not care if other people thought the questions were stupid. It was something that I wanted to know. Tom.

IMO you can't beat Excalibur. If your in Canada archers nook has very good prices, and if your in the states the 2 guys referred to up top,i would also recommend. I spoke with Dan miller when i was going to buy a bow, and he talked me out of buying from him and getting from a canadian dealer because it would be cheaper because i live in Canada, now if that doesn't speak volumes i don't know what does.
I too have the Equinox and love it the crank cocking system works well in a hunting situation just give yourself time to develope a system to use it there is only one thing you need to be aware of the Equinox is HARD on string servings but with the stringer and crankchangingstrings orrepair of serving is a breeze
I was leaning towards a ten point because of the crank cocking device since Im not to pick, pull or push 20 lbs, you say Equinox has the crank. Thanks for that info.

Enox doesn't come w/ crank, but there's one available for it.
I looked at the Ten Point CB's. And I think they are also good CB's(from everything I researched). I will tell you why I did not buy the Ten Point.
1. I did not like the fact that the cocking device was attached to the stock. I like the separate device that the Equinox has. The Equinox device is a bit larger, but it is not atached to the CB. I imagine this is a personal preference(However you still have to carry the handle separately).
2.I did not like the scope that came with the Ten Point. And it came with the bow so you were paying for it whether you wanted it or not. I think the scope was cheeeeezzzzyyyyy. The scope is the first thing I would have gotten rid of. So why buy it??
3. The Equinox is a faster bow and I bought it for less money!!
4. All the research I could find said that both bows were "Quality Products"-In other words one was not considered superior to the other. So choice was a personal liking or disliking.
5. The Ten Point does not come with the crank either. It is an option, unlike the scope. Or at least that is what my dealer said. And all the ones I saw on E-Bay were also that way. Tom.
