Default Question re: recurve bow damage

I just bought a Barnett recurve crossbow and being an idiot stood too close to a wall when firing it and broke off a bit of the tip, exposing the fiberglass (or whatever it is) end of the bow. (Scaredthe crap out of me!). The string is still attached to most of the tip and the only thing missing is the very end. The string is not rubbing against anything sharp. It still shoots, but I worry about when it's cocked if it will fail. The local archery shop said it's okay. Any horror stories or should I just look to replace the bow or not worry about it?

There is a lot of force in those limbs when the crossbow is cocked. I would not shoot it until it has been repaired. The potential for injury is too great. Send it back to Barnett for repair.

As HH says...send it back to Barnett with a full explanition of what happened.
They seem (for me at least) to be more than willing to back up their product...I'd guess even if it was operator error....!

They'll most likely just swap you for a new bow/prod/limb into your stock with a new string and return it.

No tellen on the cost.

But also as HH says and you note, pull that string back and watch the pieces fly...don't do it.
