Default Tough 'ole bird

Just finished butchering a doe that the neighbor shot. It had an unusual history. He shot her5 years ago with a rifle as a mature doe. He knocked it down but she got up and ran off while he was preoccupied shooting the buckwith her.Lots of "tallow and bone," some blood but she managed to elude recovery. He shot her again yesterday with his muzzleloader. Much of the skin on her sternum was missing revealing amass of scar tissue about 12"long by 10" wide. The sternum cartilage was fused, replaced with a somewhat amorphous bony growth. It's appears that the thoracic cavity may have been breached at one time. The wound was moist enough to attract debris but not bleeding. She was in relatively good condition otherwise and had apparently had given birth this spring. There are several fawn in the area; he noticed that she tended to be short-tempered with other deer including the fawns (small wonder!). One tough ole gal.
