Default new string stretch?

I had my string replaced and the guy that did it said the new string was an inch shorter and he said it was probably due to not streching it yet. It was the string Horton sent me for my crossbow. Do strings really strech that much?

Default RE: new string stretch?

depends upon the string material. some will stretch 1/2" others 1 1/2". fast flite stretchs the least and dacron the most the rest will be in between
