Default New CB Shooter- How too Question

Hey Guys,

I just purchased a Crossbow for my Father who is disabled and can no longer use his compound bow with us hunting in Washington. I purchased him the Barnett Quad 400. He is also getting the draw crank to assist in him drawing the bow. My question is when using a crossbow, once you have the bolt cranked back in the shooting position and you do not shoot, how do you let it down? I know you can take the bolt or arrow off but can you somehow crank it back down so as to not dry fire the CB? This may sound like a dumb question but the crossbow just arrived and we have not shot it yet so I thought I would ask.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

There is a way to release the bow using a cocking rope. It takes considerable strength and is much more complcated with a compound due to the anti dryfire device most have. My suggestion is you simply shoot a field tipped arrow at a convienient nearby soft target to release it.
