Default Sore shoulder

After 10-20 shots my shoulder sores like hell.
The CB is rather light weight (4lb), but far from being a monster:recurve, 200lb 12" draw and 450grain arrows.

Is it common for a CB to kick like a high power rifle?

Yes. VERY much for real. This is what my very own shoulder looks like today. No photoshop. no makeup. only genuine bruise.

Okay, I am FAR from an expert but I know from using my Mossbers shotgun, if the butt isn't firm against the shoulder I'm in for a big lesson in recoil. Is the butt of yoru stock tight against your shoulder? I can't envision any crossbow (let alone the two that I've fired) causing that kind of skin abrasion.

Hopefully somebody can offer you a rationale explanation. That looks like it hurts.

After a long week of shooting my tac shotgun and running throughhundreds and hundreds ofrounds of buckshot and slugs I eventually had to put it down and switch to my crossbow.
When I fired the crossbow I almost dropped it due to the agonizing pain I felt when it released the arrow.
Having said that, my 5 year old can shoot my 200lb crossbow all day without so much as whimpering, so I am calling bul****e on this one, recoil pulls a bow "away" from the shooter, resulting in minimal impact on the guy/gal behind it. My take is that there is something seriously wrong with the crossbow that caused that damage or the shooter is looking to stir a pot that doesn't exist.

Ok, gotta ask what 200# recurve has a 12" stroke and only weighs 4 lbs?

It's this one. It's homemade, using a Barnett prod that was intended to be 150# at 10", but my CB draws it to 12".
