Default An insite to internet purchases

Since this came up in another post and in a few conversations i figured I would throw this out for general discussion:

It has been noted that there are items out there for sale that the shipping is much higher for an item of that size than it should be (for example broadheads). One of the "tricks" of retail is the appearance of "value". Basicly there is the theory that if shipping is "free" it is actually "free". Well, in all honesty it is really "included" in the price. I personaly do not feel that this isdeceptive unlessthe price you pay is significantly higher than it should be over an item that has shipping as a seperate cost. Lets do an example:

Say I am selling a set of broadheads for $30.00 and charging $5.00 in freight. Is this a better deal than the same broadheads at $35.00 with free shipping? Placed side by side, most people will note that it comes to the same price. However, there are plenty out there that will only see the price of the part and not think about shipping. Those will think that $30.00 is less. NOW, say I am working on the idea that there are alot of people out there like that. I could sell those broadheads for $30.00 and charge $9.00 in freight and a $3.00 handling fee and someone somewhere will think that they are only paying $30.00 and got a great deal. This is a big trick especially on Ebay. This form of marketing is IMO not only deceptive, but dishonest and it says very little about the merchant.

This form of marketing give the illusion of "value". Just a note that it is really the buyers responsibility to make sure that there is no "fine print" that ends up on your credit card statement that you did not expect...

What Wyvern said!!

It is so very true!! A large number of sellers, Ebay and other places, give the illusion of a cheap price for an item but make up the cost in the shipping. Plus sometimes add in "Handling Charges"

It's a crock of crap and a ripoff. Shipping can vary dramatically from website to website, for the same item!

Shopping and buying on the Internet, be it Ebay or other website is: BUYER BEWARE and BE SMART!!
