Default Putting a CB to the test

Hi all,

My CB is homemade, based on a Barnett recurve prod. (11" draw at about 170#).

I"m new to CBs, and in my country this is a non-existing area. So I have no points of refference as to the performance of my CB. I"d appreciate any pointers here. I was thinking:

1. What sort of accuracy would be considered reasonable, and what is unaccepted?

2. The few bolts I haveare 2216, 20", 415 grain (tipped with 100gr Muzzy). Would you suggest any alterations, like shortening? Please note that I cant get new bolts, so I cant just "try and see".

3. How can I measure velocity/energy without a chronograph? Are there tables or formulas that translateACTUAL trajectory to velocity?

Any other points on evaluating and/or tuningwill be appreciated.

Thanks,
Yuv

WOW!! And I thought I had it badfinding.223 ammo my new rifle likes. You poor SOB ( I mean that in the warmest way possible). My gov can't have my crossbow or my guns.
These guys are sure to answer a bunch of your questions but I am gonna spend some time today squeezing rail lube into a toothpaste tube. Send me your address Yuv and I will hook you up.
Just curious Yuv.. Is it illegal to mess with crossbows or are they just unavailable? You don't say where your from which would be cool if we are gonna help arm you. LOL

I"m from Israel. The law is very unclear about archery. Untill several years ago crossbows where sold openly, but now the custom authorities confiscate CBs being imported through mail or brought on person. There is no legal ground for that, and their formal explanation is "that's how we operate". (realy. that's what they say)

Vertical bows are confiscated or not, depending on the custom officer's mood. Interestingly, there ARE official archery (including CB) clubs, though there are only few dozens archers in the entire country.

It's not clear wheather possession is illegal, especialy since CBs where sold under the same current law.

Confused? so are we...

Bottom line - there are no bussinesses to talk of, and no option for mail orders.

Let me get this right...You guys are half expected to carry your state issued firearm with you when you go shopping but can't carry or use a bow. Sounds like we have the same brainy individuals in government.
Good luck..........
I have even been to Israel. The old man designed windows there 45 years ago.. Boy that was a long time ago.
